- Canton – Canton Helpline
Many Canton residents in need do not know where to turn for assistance or what resources are available to them. The Helpline can provide referrals to local social service agencies who can assist callers with basic needs such as food, clothing, furniture, and transportation. In addition, financial assistance is available to help with utility bills and fuel costs. The Helpline also can provide referrals for mental health assistance. Your call will be answered by a qualified volunteer who will discuss any issues or concerns you are experiencing. All calls are confidential. After you have discussed possible solutions and alternatives, when appropriate, you will be referred to a Town of Canton community resource or other agency. Please call the Helpline at 781-828-6666.
- Canton – Department of Elder and Human Services
The mission of the Canton Council on Aging is to promote social, recreational and educational activities and provide advocacy and assistance to Canton Elders and their families. - Canton – Senior Social and Recreational Programs
The Canton Senior Center offers a range of senior social programs including Chorus Group, Hand and Foot Card Game, Bingo, Duplicate Bridge, Beginner/Refresher Bridge Lessons, Mahjong, Pool Lessons, Cribbage, Whist, Friday Movies, Good Morning Book Club, Women’s Club, Men’s Club, and Veteran’s Coffee Hour. - Canton – Are You OK? Program
Are you OK? Provides safety and security for elders living alone. Each morning, 365 days a year, an officer from the Norfolk County Sheriffs Office places a call to check on the well-being of people who have signed up for the program. If they fail to answer or indicate they need emergency aid, the officer summons help immediately. Since 2001 officers have registered over 70 saves by calling for help for seniors who suffered falls or a variety of other medical problems. People who are interested in learning more about Are You OK? or signing up for the program can call the Norfolk County Sheriff's office at 1-866-900-7865. Applications for this valuable program are also available at the Council on Aging Office.
- Canton – Caregivers Support Group
The Caregivers Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 A.M. at the Council on Aging. Providing support and help is something that a caregiver knows a great deal about. It is easy to lose your true self while being a caregiver. It can be both an emotionally and physically draining experience that often leaves the caregiver isolated and frustrated. - Canton – Senior Arts and Crafts
The Canton Senior Center offers a range of arts and craft programs including Knitting, Embroidering and Crocheting. For more information call 781-828-1323.
- Canton – Senior Exercise and Fitness Programs
The Canton Senior Center offers a range of fitness classes each week including Heart Fit, Chair Fit, Zumba Gold, Men’s Fitness, Yoga, Line Dancing, Tai Chi, and Pickleball. For more information call 781-828-1323.
- Stoughton – Senior Transportation
Medical Transportation - Stoughton senior citizens age 60 and over and people with disabilities are encouraged to use our Medical Transportation Service. Medical Transportation including wheel chair transport is available to Avon, Brockton, Canton, Easton, Randolph, Sharon and Stoughton. The fee for transportation is $2.50 each way. Tickets are sold 6 rides for $15 and 12 rides for $30. All passengers must have a ticket when boarding our vehicles. Their Medical Transportation Service is offered on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM and Friday, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Transportation to the senior center daily for lunch is free.
Transportation for Grocery Shopping is offered on Tuesday mornings for $2.50 each way.
Transportation to the Food Pantry on Park Avenue is available for Stoughton senior residents and disabled residents that do not drive. Transportation is free.
