Personal Care Services

Personal Care are services to assist those having difficulties with their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), which are key life tasks that need to be managed daily in order for a person to live at home and be fully independent.

ADLs can be broken down into the following categories:

Personal Hygiene: The ability to do their own grooming, brushing teeth, cleaning dentures, nail and hair care.

Bathing: The mental and physical ability to wash one’s face in a sink and body in the bath or shower.

Continence Management: A person’s mental and physical ability to properly use the bathroom including getting to the toilet, cleaning oneself, and getting back up.

Dressing: The mental and physical ability to select and dress in the proper clothes for different occasions and appropriately for the current weather.

Feeding: The ability to feed oneself, though not necessarily the capability to prepare their own food.

Transferring/Mobility: The extent of a person’s ability to move from a seated to a standing position as well as get in and out of bed.

Walking/Ambulating: The ability to walk or otherwise get around the home or outside. The technical term for this is “ambulating.”

Signs Your Loved One Needs Help With Personal Care

You may know your loved one needs assistance with personal care or have noticed the signs:

• An unpleasant body odor

• Infrequent showering or bathing

• The smell or stains from of urine or feces in the house, on their clothing, or on furniture including wet spots

• A noticeable decline in grooming habits and personal care such as unkempt hair, untrimmed nails, lack of oral care, wearing dirty or stained clothing, sloppy or not shaving at all, bizarre makeup

• Difficulty getting up from a seated position

• Difficulty with walking, balance and mobility

24 Hour and Live-in Care

With 24 Hour in-home care, there are no shared rooms with roommates or the divided attention of nursing home staff dealing with the greatest crisis at the moment. Your in-home caregiver focus on only the care needs of one person, your loved one.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care

Many families prefer their loved one to stay at home for as long as possible. Our caregivers are trained and experienced with the challenges of Alzheimer’s and Dementia care. We provide a thorough In-Home Assessment to determine all the support and needs that are in place to ensure your loved one’s happiness and safety in their home.

Bathing Assistance

Our caregivers are trained and experienced in bathing assistance as required by the situation, including:

• Bathing with a shower
• Bathing in the bathtub
• Bathing with a basin bath
• Giving a bed bath

We encourage our clients to bathe themselves as much as possible and help where help is needed.

Our caregivers develop a bathing routine with your loved one making the process a systematic and professional endeavor.

We also offer one-time Shower services for short-time needs.

Personal Hygiene Assistance

Our caregivers are trained and experienced in all areas of personal hygiene assistance as required by the situation, including:

• Shampooing
• Oral Care
• Nail Care
• Foot Care
• Shaving
• Skin Care

We encourage our clients to take care of their needs as much as possible and help where help is needed.

Our caregivers develop routines with your loved one making the process a systematic and professional endeavor.

Dressing Assistance

Our caregivers are trained and experienced in helping choose appropriate clothing and assisting with dressing as required by the situation. We encourage our clients to dress as much as possible and help where help is needed.

Toileting and Incontinence Assistance

Our caregivers are trained and experienced in all areas of toileting assistance as required by the situation, including:

• Toileting in the bathroom
• Toileting in bed
• Toileting with a urinal
• Toileting with a portable commode

We are also experienced in managing incontinence, the leakage of urine or bowel movement over which the person has no control.

We encourage our clients to toilet themselves as much as possible and help where help is needed.

Our caregivers develop a toileting routine with your loved one making the process a systematic and professional endeavor.

Feeding Assistance

Our caregivers are trained and experienced in all areas of feeding assistance as required by the person’s physical or cognitive situation, including:

• Properly preparing the meal when a person needs assistance with eating
• Feeding a person in bed
• Using eating aids
• Feeding a person who is disabled
• Boosting food intake when appetite is poor or they are losing weight
• Eating problems and solutions to resolve them

Mealtimes are important as they provide a welcome break in the day and mealtimes should be enjoyable so that the person looks forward to them. We encourage our clients to feed themselves as much as possible and help where help is needed.

Medication Reminders

For many elders, it can be difficult to remember when or if a certain medication was taken. Our caregivers remind your loved one to take their medications at the correct time and record this on a Weekly Medication Schedule that the correct dose has been taken on time. This ensures that the medication has been taken correctly and that there are no double doses or skipped medications.
