- Brookline – Students Helping Older People – S.H.O.P.
The S.H.O.P. Program is a collaboration between the Brookline Senior Center and the community service program at Brookline High School. The volunteer students grocery shop for seniors in Brookline and seniors share their actual history and experience with students in a friendly visit after shopping. - Brookline – Brookline Council on Aging
The Brookline Council on Aging is a Town agency responsible for planning, coordinating and providing comprehensive services for Brookline residents age 60 and older. It is a proud member of a number of advocacy groups on a local, state and national level working to secure a variety of benefits for seniors.
- Brookline – Brookline Council on Aging Social Services
Brookline Council on Aging’s professional social work staff advise the elderly and their families. They provide information, outreach, psychological, social, home assessments, and develop service plans to coordinate services for clients. They can provide case management so that the elderly are able to remain in their own homes or assist in finding appropriate placements, when necessary. The Brookline Senior Center is a gathering place dedicated to enriching the aging experience for Brookline seniors over the age of 60. The Center holds many programs and services and contains the Senior Fitness Center. - Brookline – Brookline Senior Center Food Pantry
Every Tuesday throughout the year, a Food Pantry is held at the Brookline Senior Center. Each week upwards of 100 people are served. The program is unique because there is no membership, no residency requirement, no age restriction and no limit to the number of times per month that a person can come for food. The food is generously provided from donations from Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Lovin' Spoonfuls, When Pigs Fly and the Brookline Food Coop. The items most often available include: produce, bread, baked goods, dairy, salads, sandwiches and seasonal items. Seniors in Brookline who do not live nearby or have cars can arrange rides with the Elder Bus and the Senior Center Van. The van provides door-to-door transportation to the Brookline Senior Center for educational and social activities. It operates Monday - Thursday. The suggested donation is $1 per ride. Call 617-730-2750 by 3:00 on the business day before you need a ride. - Brookline – Council on Aging Equipment Loan Fund – E.L.F.
This program accepts donations of smaller, gently used durable medical equipment such as canes, walkers, shower benches, commodes, bed boards, and grabbers for redistribution to individuals in need. Due to space limitations, the program cannot accept all items. Please do not drop items off without checking on whether or not your item can be used. This program is available to Brookline and its surrounding communities.
- Brookline – Greater Boston Food Bank Food Commodity Program
The Greater Boston Food Bank Commodity Program provides shelf-stable food to low-income seniors. Two shopping bags of food for each approved participant are delivered to the Brookline Senior Center, Sussman House, and O’Shea House on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. The Brookline Senior Center welcomes people living with memory changes and their carepartners to its free monthly Memory Cafe, usually the 4th Wednesday of the month from 1:30-3:00. The Cafe includes a variety of programming, refreshments, and other enjoyable experiences with peers facing similar challenges. Individuals with memory loss and their carepartners can connect in a social, relaxing, and supportive environment. - Brookline – Spanish Immersion Program
The Spanish Immersion program seeks to connect otherwise isolated Spanish-speaking seniors with students to improve their oral and interactive skills. Latin American seniors, aged 55 and up, will be in charge of conversational sessions that provide unique opportunities to learn about other cultures and experiences. The mission of Spanish Immersion is to improve the quality of life of Spanish-speaking seniors and to bridge them with non-Spanish-speaking community members. At the same time, Spanish Immersion seeks to enrich the lives of all people living in the greater Boston area by increasing the community’s understanding of Spanish language and culture and ultimately by celebrating diversity. - Brookline – Transportation Resources for Seniors – TRIPPS
Transportation Resources, Information, Planning & Partnership for Seniors (TRIPPS), is a joint venture of the Newton & Brookline Councils on Aging and BrooklineCAN, in conjunction with the Brookline Age-Friendly Community initiative. TRIPPS invites you to connect with their network of trained, background checked Transit Advisors (TAs), who will help you identify the transportation options that might work best for you.
- Brookline – Trusted Transportation Partner – Senior Transportation
The Brookline Council on Aging with a grant from ITNAmerica "Trusted Transportation Partner" grant, with support from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, provides free transportation for Brookline residents to scheduled eye care appointments in the Greater Boston area. For a ride, please contact the HELP line at 617-730-2752 at least 1 week before your scheduled appointment, as a home visit to sign up for the Brookline HELP program is required to access this program. - Brookline – Elderbus Senior Transportation
Elderbus makes an hourly circuit between the Brookline Senior Center, senior housing, and shopping areas Monday through Friday, 9:00 - 3:00. The suggested donation is 50 cents per ride. - Brookline- Senior Fitness Center
To inquire about becoming a member of the Brookline Fitness Center call 617-730-2769. Membership includes use of strength training and cardio equipment and small group classes. Quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Assistance of certified personal trainer at no additional charge.
